Bhisho - The Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA) has approved R54 million for the construction of salt crystallization plant at the Coega Industrial Development Zone (IDZ). The construction of a purpose-built pure vacuum-dried (PVD) salt crystallization facility for the salt company Cerebos, will start in February 2007 within the IDZ near Port Elizabeth. The IDZ is one of the government's high priority projects to bring about significant economic benefits to the Eastern Cape region, create employment, energise industrial development and promote international trade. DBSA investment officer for this project, Simon Vincent pointed out that the Eastern Cape was one of the bank's designated "hot spots" in dire need of infrastructure development and job creation.
A FOOD Complex in Davao City, with an estimated cost of P1 billion, has been proposed by the Southern Philippines Construction Core Group (SPCCG) to be established in Daliao, Toril to further develop and promote industries with high growth potentials. SPCCG, which comprises representatives from private sector partners, namely: the Davao City Local Government Unit, the National Development Company (NDC), and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), comes up with the plan to transform Davao Region as the food processing and consolidation center in Mindanao, as well as the shipment hub for domestic and export markets. .

The Workers Compensation Board of Manitoba has announced it's cutting rates for construction firms that encourage a safe workplace. The Incentive Plan in Construction will cut WCB rates by five percent for firms that earn safety association accreditation through the Manitoba Heavy Construction Association, or the Consttruction Safety Association of Manitoba. The plan starts January 1st, and is open to over 5,500 construction firms. It will be funded by the construction firms through a small surcharge increase, which doesn't apply to other industries. YAROSLAVL, October 13 (Itar-Tass) - Russia's President Vladimir Putin has visited an exhibition of road machinery that will be used in the projects for improving the networks of Russian automobile roads. The display shows more than 30 types of vehicles -- asphalt spreaders, rolls, excavators, bulldozers - that are used in all the phases of road construction. Apart from these, put up for the show are road maintenance vehicles and mobile gauging laboratories. Exhibition stands show models of new non-routine bridges, the plans for modernizing the country's transport system, investment projects, the systems of telematics and navigation on automobile transport, as well as new road construction technologies. A report, the working group of the State Council drafted for the session, stresses the key role that automobile roads have for the implementation of priority national projects.
