Oshkosh Truck will buy construction firm JLG Industries

New York (dpa) Oshkosh Truck Corp, a maker of military, emergency, construction and garbage-collection vehicles, plans to buy construction firm JLG Industries Inc for 3.2 billion dollars, the two companies said Monday.

McConnellsburg, Pennsylvania-based JLG is primarily a maker of construction equipment - including forklifts, work platforms and specialty vehicles - and will form the largest portion of Oshkosh's four business sections.

Oshkosh has been expanding into new fields through a variety of acquisitions in the last 10 years as the company - based in the city of the same name in Wisconsin - seeks to reduce its dependence on defence contracts.

The acquisition, which still needs the approval of JLG shareholders, would create a company with annual sales of 6 billion dollars and about 13,000 employees
