Web Marketing Association Names Best Construction Web Site ...

West Simsbury, CT (PRWEB) October 16, 2006 -- www.webaward.org - The Web Marketing Association is pleased to announce the Best Construction Web Site Winner as part of the 10th annual international WebAward Competition, the Internet's premier website award competition.

"Many construction sites have struggled to move beyond the "brochureware" phase and look like online versions of their printed sales materials," said William Rice, President of the Web Marketing Association. "Feedback from WebAward judges can help websites move beyond this phase allowing them to attract more web visitors."

Construction websites represent a highly competitive industry within the WebAward competition. Each website is judged on the same seven criteria including:
- Design
- Innovation
- Content
- Technology
- Interactivity
- Copy writing
- Ease of use

The overarching goal of the WebAward Competition is to provide a forum to recognize the people and organizations responsible for developing the most effective construction websites on the Net today.

Proposal cracks down on broken promises

Ontario home builders will have to come clean about the tentative nature of closing dates, and will lose a five-day grace period allowed them for unforeseen delays, under new regulations being proposed by the industry's regulating body.

"There will be greater transparency about closing dates and the consequences of missing them," former Supreme Court Justice Frank Iacobucci, who headed a special committee on closing delays for Tarion Warranty Corp., told a media briefing at which recommended rule changes were unveiled this week.

"Late closings have become one of the most troubling issues for consumers, and for the industry too," Tarion president Greg Gee told reporters.

Surveys of home buyers by J.D. Power and Associates found that home readiness was their number one concern and chief complaint in the past two years.

GREAT EXPECTATIONS A number of plans for towering construction ...

Hurricane Katrina sped along plans for a spate of new high-rise residential towers, but more than a quarter of the proposed housing units have already been killed or put on hold.

Out-of-town investors "are circling like eagles" with capital ready to invest in downtown projects, said Kurt Weigle, executive director of the Downtown Development District. And inquiries from outside developers have increased five-fold, possibly because of special tax incentives being made available to building projects in hurricane-impacted areas.

But not all of the residential projects will be built, experts say. The pricetags on most of the announced projects have risen 30 percent due to escalating prices on labor and building materials, developers say. That big of an increase is giving pause to both the developers behind the condo towers and the potential condo buyers who, in some cases, are backing out of sales contracts when presented with the higher prices.

Get Ready for Your Remodel

If remodeling contractor Dale Armstrong could give potential clients only one piece of advice, it would be, "Get ready for sticker shock."

"You always have the shock factor when they find out the price of what they want to do. So be prepared for that," said Armstrong of JAFA Enterprises Inc. Armstrong’s been building homes since 1989, with a specialty in remodeling since 1993.
